DeWanna’s Closet
Since 2016, DeWanna’s Closet has provided new uniforms, shoes, and supplies to schoolchildren in need throughout Calcasieu Parish. Their mission is “to facilitate all Calcasieu Parish School board students to be prepared and enabling them to learn in the classroom by providing uniforms, supplies and nutrition as our resources allow.”
In 2026, DeWanna’s Closet moved locations to Sale Street Baptist Church, where it will continue to grow and serve the children in SWLA.

Food For Thought
In 2021, DeWanna’s Closet and Sale Street Baptist Church partnered to create Food for Thought. This ministry provides food for schoolchildren in Calcasieu Parish who face food insecurity on weekends. Our mission is “to eliminate weekend hunger so children return to school equipped to learn.”
Every Tuesday night, volunteers from Sale Street and other local churches pack hundreds of bags, which are later delivered to schools and given to children in need.
